MPs have voted for a brand new regulation that ‘decriminalises torture by British troops and is assault on human rights’, it has been claimed.

The Abroad Operations (Service Personnel and Veterans) Invoice cleared the Commons after MPs gave it a 3rd studying by 345 votes to 260, majority 85.

However some politicians and senior army figures have stated the laws will create a presumption towards the prosecution of torture and different severe crimes, besides rape and sexual violence.

Scottish Liberal Democrat MP Alistair Carmichael wrote in Politics Dwelling the federal government was ‘looking for to successfully decriminalise torture’ by introducing the brand new invoice.

Discipline Marshall Lord Guthrie added the invoice “offers room for a de facto decriminalisation of torture”.
