The Vatican is investigating how the Pope’s official Instagram account “favored” a photograph of a scantily-clad Brazilian mannequin.
A put up shared by the mannequin and influencer Natalia Garibotto in early October — that includes the mannequin in revealing, schoolgirl-style lingerie — was favored from the Pope’s official account, @franciscus.
The photograph was captioned with a satan horn emoji, together with the suggestive line: “I can train you a factor or two.”
On Nov. 14, a day after the Catholic Information Company reported on the scandal and requested the Holy See for remark, the like was eliminated. It’s unclear when the Pope’s account favored the photograph on the platform.
Within the days following media protection of the fiasco, the Holy See declined to remark. CNA reported Tuesday, nonetheless, that an investigation is at the moment ongoing throughout the Vatican to find out how the “like” came about.
Although a staff of staffers handle the Pope’s social media presence, a consultant from the Holy See advised the Guardian they confirmed no staffer favored the risqué photograph. Additionally they reached out to Instagram “for explanations.”
A consultant from Instagram didn’t instantly reply to a request for remark from USA TODAY.
On Twitter, shortly after the incident went viral, Garibotto joked: “Not less than I’ll heaven.”
